W. H. Allner: POSTERS: Fifty artists and designers analyze their approach, methods and solutions to poster design & advertising. NYC: Reinhold, 1952. First edition. A very good hardcover book with a fair dust jacket that is heavily chipped and worn along the edges. The interior is unmarked and very clean, and this book is somewhat uncommon.

9.5 x 12 oblong hardcover book with 120 pages and 51 illustrations in b/w and color. Most of the reproductions are full-page and there are many unusual examples of some high-profile designers lesser-known work. Each designer is also represented by a b/w portrait photograph.

This volumes’ excellence stems fromt he fact that each designer presents one of their posters and discusses their creative process for realizing the final artwork. Highly recommended.

Includes work by Walter Allner, Rudi Bass, Herbert Bayer, Lester Beall, WillBurtin, Gene Federico, Kenneth D. Haak,Gyorgy Kepes, George krikorian, Leo Lionni, Hans Moller, Josef Muller-Brockmann, Jacques Nathan, Celestino Piatti, Giovanni Pintori (for Olivetti), Paul Rand, Saul Steinberg,Ladislav Sutnar, Bradbury Thompson, Rafael Tufino and many others.
